Bruneck/Brunico

Bruneck/Brunico is a city and community in the Pusteria Valley. The first documentary mention of the city was in A.D. 1256. It is the main population center of the Pusteria Valley and, with approx. 15,000 inhabitants, is the fourth-largest city of South Tyrol. Bruneck was founded by the Prince Bishop Bruno von Kirchberg (hence the town's name.) He also commissioned the construction of the Bruneck Castle, which has become the city's trademark.
